PRELUDE

The 26th of June 2014, the ashes of Raul Scacchi were entombed in the Monumental Cemetery of Milan. His friends from the city where he was born and raised, and where he took his first steps as a musician and painter, gathered there for a brief ceremony. This way, also those who hadn’t had the chance to pay their last respects in Pisa, where he had passed away the 9th of June, four days after his 64th birthday, had the possibility to say goodbye to Raul.

A poem by another Lombard artist – the sculptor, painter and poet Antonio Arosio (Monza 4/10/1911- Milan 18/9/1994) – was read on that occasion.

There was a man here,
They’ll say,
And I’ll be gone already
Without the world knowing.
Only three or four
Will say
“There was a man here
Because we talked to him”

Raul Scacchi, painter and musician, left a great void in the lives of those who had known him. To make the most of his spiritual heritage, together with some friends, we came up with the idea of creating a website dedicated to Raul, a place where everyone will be able to look at his paintings, listen to his songs, find the voices of all the people he worked with, mainly in the years of his full artistic ripeness, when we lived together on the Greek island of Corfu.

The acronym AIKE stands for “Artisti Italiani Kerkyra”.
Kerkyra is the Greek name of the island of Corfu, where Raul lived from 2001, in the years of his full artistic maturity. Born as a playful dispute on the self-promotion mania made possible and stimulated by the spreading of internet, the acronym was created in 2010, when the Greek writer and essayst Maria Strani Potts published her article “Two Italians in Synarades” on ‘THE CORFIOT” , the magazine of the large English-speaking community in Corfu.
